-Rudy , the toy rabbit , presented to George Dunning by Lulu Belle , amuses him while he is laid up with a sprained ankle ( since he tripped over a birch log one night . ) - Mrs . Frank Skeels gathered up a lot of wild flowers and decorated the White House . - Nick Cramer's undeni- able tallness comes in handy when hanging up a bunch of bananas for short grocers like Kenneth Grant or Edgar Johnson . - Thursday's tor- ridity was not emphatically perceptible in Dr. G. A. Vannette's house and office building owing to the celotex insulation . A lady patient re- marked on Wednesday : " This is the coolest place I have been in to- day . " - Ted Glover , Alice Brennan and Sadie Martin withstood Thurs- day's heat with great courage and resignation , inbibing three pounds of fish at roadside grille and washing the fishbones down with coca cola and rootbeer . For dessert they watched the sunset at Pentwater beach and washed the sunset down with an ice cream cone . - Among the no- tables in Pentwater is Mrs. Zioncheck , wife of United States Senator Zioncheck of Washington and Washington , who burst into the lime- light by throwing the bed springs out of an apartment house window and sleeping on the mattress so that the people in the sober street be- low could recoil from the descending coils and say : " Spring has come . " With Mrs. Zioncheck is Miss Marie Green , friend and companion , who lends additional Washingtonian style and smartness to whatever beach bench she happens to bring herself and Mrs. Zioncheck . - Lucian Piper of the heated Illinois corn belt , but now visiting at the Ewing planta- tion on the boulevard at Smith Cornert , admitted Thursday evening to the editor of the Newspaper That Is Different that he had never spent the atfernoon sitting in a bath tub with an umbrella over head . - Betty Irving's shoulders were chattering and her teeth shivering as she shook hands Thursday evening on the beach with her waves - Olive cousin , Pike Billings . Betty had come out of the cold Haney is acquiring a suntan of elegant quality through extended sures on the south beach . Margaret Skeels . Margaret Weiglen and Georgia Lindberg got oar- grasp blisters on their secretarial hands as they rowed on Silver Lake on Independence Day . Too blistered to row they rested until a motor boat decided to give them a push or a tow . As the ripple rose as the Samaritan motor boat approached the girls screamed : " Please , oh please don't tip us over ! " Frank Skeels and Henry Swartz and their wires are glad they can say they were over in the White House . But Frank should have stronger fish hooks next time . Phil Wolf says he gets out of the war for the Old Dutch trucks - Phyllis and Faye Hunt- ler , 13 and 15. brought their waterball to Grandpa Barton's cottage on the 4th . - Richard Scott McCurdy , the pipe organ player , slapped Mr. Fox . the insurance peddler on the back and made his bellows roar . William Kocourek , co - author with his brother of a new song " Don't Muss My Hair , " was refreshing his inspirations at Silver Lake on the 4th along with his wife and their niece , Alice Krol , and Jolin Keecurek and the C. F. Tymick family . Alice Krol is a secretary to an executive for Allyn & Bacon in Chicago . Such quiet poise has Mae Whalen . a Chicago cashier cashing in on the windy wealth of Silver Lake . The cottage porch also held John and Millicent Pushee and John Whelen and Don Whelan , who candles eogs for Armour's to discover their antiquity if any . Raymond Smith visited on the 4th of Jul with Cleo McCulley and we think he stayed for tea . Raymond always seems like a skyrocket in Cleo's sky . Maybe she would like him for a Roman can- dle on her altar . The cabin of James Wolf , two miles south of Mears burned to the ground Thursday . Mr. Wolf was getting dinner and smark from the wood fire set the roof ablaze . Jimmie limber a ladder to extinguish the blaze and Frankie Althouse was to hend pn nails of water , but the ladder collapsed through the burning wall and Jim- mie fell through into the house getting badly herned about his head and face . He was taken to the Hart hospital and will probably recov-

er . Frankie Althouse , aged 68 , was taken to the county farm . Jimmie Wolf is 83 years old . Herbert Morten entertained E. J. Endlich of Milwaukee on Firecracker Day - Miss Edna Mae Wingett is going to learn all about selling farms and summer home sites and village lots by running a typewritter in the office of Eva Hanson Osborn . - John Hanson is leaving for California and may be gone several months or perhaps two years , as he has employment there . An odd coincidence is that Reed Harris is also leaving for the west about the same week . They were boyhood companions and neighbors.-

There will be a great cherry crop in Oceana county this year , per- haps the largest ever . A price of 2 % cents a pond is offered by most canning factories.Mr . and Mrs. O. C. Van Syoe of New Era will cele- brate their 50th wedding anniversary in New Era Sunday , July 19.- Was Tommy Welsh trying to take electrical treatments when he drop- ped a battery on his toes ? - Swift Lathers visited in Detroit and other southern Michigan towns Monday and Tuesday - Our sympathies go cut to the Grover family of Stony Lake and the Loughmiller family of Shelby in the untimely passing of Carol Grover , 19 year old wife of Winston Grover , a few hours after the birth of a daughter . - Chris Baade's barn burned Monday night , probably from spontaneous combus- tion . The family were away from home and did not save any of the equipment . - Miss Lola Mae Fuller looked patriotic on the 4th with her blue half sox peeping out at the red tent doors in the feet of her white slacks . Charles Carlson has screened in his front porch to keep outt the June bugs and rose bugs . His lawn is graced by an artistic bird bath on a pedestal . - Lots of cherry pickers are needed around here .
