-Hubert Shinn , professor geometry , and Louis Meisch , professor of tadpoles , have resigned from Hart high school because they are work- ing at the Dow Chemical construction in Ludington and receive many more nickels a week than would roll at them down the academic halls . Louis Meisch hammers nails with Jerry Koon from Scottville and at noon they compare batting averages by counting up their black and blue fingernails and toenails . - Floyd Krauter is getting some of Guernsey cows at Silver Hills Farm ready to appear at the Ludington Fair next week . - Charles Harris has two new daughters now , acquir- ed by annexation . Son Donald married a Margaret and Reed calls his wife Sylvia . Charles , the postal clerk , put his stamp of approval on the young ladies and will give them a kiss for a postmark - Miss Nellie Bunting , daughter of E. L. Bunting at Walkerville , is buried today . She had been living in Detroit . - Clare Bright and family enjoyed the bright August sunshine last week at Quail's Trail - Miss Margaret Spencer didn't like that hornets ' nest hanging out of the tree so decided to stand on the running board of her ear and pull it down with the rake as she drove past . But the hornets were faster than she was and before she could shut the coupe door and say seat they were plant- ing their stingers . " Stung again ! " yelled Miss Spencer , as the fifth hor- net kissed her unkindly and she swatted him blindly on the rear and wiped a tear . - Miss Lenore Hanson , lovely nurse from Manistee , has been shedding ultra violet rays in Hart during a week's vacation . There's always healing in Lenore's face . - Bill Anderson has red spat- ters on his painting cap but that doesn't mean he's a red - head . - David Duncan , the master of the inn at Val - Du - Lakes , has a lot of guests playing croquet . Setting their feet under his table and emptying their napkin rings he has a lawyer and two doctors , one M. D. and one Ph . D. I believe he has a Mr. White , who is colored , but that's nothing . I went to school with Robert Black and he was white . You don't always get a cottage with your cottage pudding nor any Indians with your In- dian pudding - John Summers of Oregon , who used to be station agent in Mears , came back this week to visit brother Ed . and also Clarence Spitler . The tall stature of George W. Burton , the insurance man . would qualify him to live in Burton Heights if he went to the Rapids The cemetery hill has been black topped so cars from Blooming Valley

can roll into town faster . - J . D. Luttrull has a handsome flower bed by the old post office building . - Miss Margaret Browne of Topeka spent a week with her brother , Walter Hodges , and admired the rock garden . Marleen Simon went to the Rapids last week to look at the new hats in the windows and to find one that will not blow off her face when she crosses the east bridge in March when the kite tails are sailing higli.- Last night the logs at Silver Lake park campfire were built in a square rail fence style and around the flaming beauty of the burning fence the crowd gathered to sing " A Home On The Range " and " Deep In The Heart Of Texas . " George Meyer , the Prudential man from the Rapids with a constitution like the rock of Gibralter , held onto two- year old Larry and kept his eye on seven year old Sally and nine year old Judy while his sweet - voiced wife , Evangeline , sang " The Old Rug- ged Cross " and the audience joined in . Rufus Jacobs , who had been sit- ting in his car eating peanuts , drew near to join in the refrain of " Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree With Anyone Else But Me . " - When Miss Mary Burns came from Detroit to visit Mrs. Roy Arthur Tower in Lakeland , she brought with her Mrs. Joseph L. Burns to help wash up the extra teacups . Mrs. Tower lives close to Judge Wetmore's water tower . When Billo was a little boy half past four he said Mr. Wetmore put up the water tower so he could get wet more . The Russells from the Rapids live next to the water tower and take a lot of pains keeping their yard neat . - Cheese it ! Eat more cheese . It's a victory special . There is a surplus of cheese now and the more macaroni and cheese you eat now , the more Welsh rabbits you chase out of the kitchen and into the dining room , the more you help to give stability to the cheese indus- try - Clyde Snyder is going away to swing a musket , so Mrs. Floyd Krauter had a supper for him the other night and seventeen people took a bite out of the red , white and blue cake . I wonder if she put any wintergreen berries on it for cannon balls . - Contributed by a little lady in Hart : " When married men take a cruise or a week - end trip they should take their own wives and not someone's ex - wife . " - Keith Cor- liss sells peaches and cream , can rubbers and spices , fly swatters and school tablets . adv . - Ejnor - Krantz will be the principal player at the Red Cross musicale in the Hart high school auditorium Thursday eve- ning , August 27. An interesting program of community singing , violin duets , solos and a paper on the history of Hesperia has been prepared , says Carrie E. Mears , secretary - Bob Williams is away on the ocean eating navy beans so he couldn't visit the vacation spots of Oceana this summer and his friend , Mary Sharrock , is seeing them for him . Bob's mother , Lillian , looks so young you would think the girls are sisters , but Mary lasts longer on her feet . - Mrs . George Derthick was buried Monday . She was 80 years old and lived with her son , Louis . Dick Schramm of the navy came home from Rhode Island to eat a sugared fried cake at the Hart bakery and see his sister who is going to get married . Rosie Schramm was up from Chicago to eat the cur- rants out of a cinnamon bun . - Clyde Snyder married Vera Squires of Pentwater before he went to war , Vera is the Latin word for true , so at the wedding the choir should sing " I Love You Truly .
