Mary VanAllsburg will teach at the Piper , Vada Bender at Willson , Ruth Pearson at Batham , Lorraine Halladay at Crystal Valley , Peggy Brooks at Round Lake . In Mears Richard Jensen and Ruth Anderson will be teachers . - Dorothy Lombard , who once taught Little Red Rid- inghood literature in Mears , is now a student nurse at Harper hospi- tal . Home for a visit she came through Mears with Eva Jacobson and Lois Hager to row a boat on Silver pond.-H. A. Stier of Dayton , with his wife and little dog Tiny and little Elmer are at K's camp for a spell eating fish . Mr. Stier blistered the oars on his hand and went to town to get some salve to rub on the oars . They are feeling better at the present writing . Did you know that Eva Hanson - Osborn of real estate fame has initials that spell the word " echo ? " Eva Claire Hanson ( or Halloran ) Osborn . Eva is an echo perhaps of the old sailor , J. D. Hanson , who climbed the clay banks of Claybanks township and found- ed the first farm of this county there , with the Hanson urge for farm holdings coming down to her through generation and generation.- Marjorie Trommater , army nurse , who took up a teaspoon for better or for worse and never dreamed I would write this verse , was home the other day for a good drink of milk . - Hazel Billings set out her best water glasses for Betty Irving , who came from the Rapids . - Returning to the same town were George Meyer , the Prudential prince , who looks like Lester Marcellus , and Eva Meyer , who is the singing image of Mrs. Howard Moore . - E . G. Robinson , the oil man from Missouri stopping at Twin Anchors , has traveled much in the west and he still finds towns here and there like Meteetse , Wyoming , that still reflect the pictures- queness of the old west . - Clarence Loree went to Mackinac to hear the buggies squeak . - Thomas Welsh is grandfather again . Dr. and Mrs. Eggleston of the Rapids have a new daughter . She doesn't call her moth- er Eileen yet but maybe she will when she gets 15. - Eloise Munger gets engaged to James Hackett , When Doctor Munger plants his millionth cheery tree do you suppose he will let James Hackett ? -There will be no services at the Swedish Mission Covenant church this Sunday , Sept. 6 , on account of the young people's institute in Grand Rapids . But next Sunday , Sept. 13 , Clifford Bjorklund , who has been student pastor this summer , will bring his farewell service at 8 p . m . and would be glad to meet all lis friends again . - Oceana people should be glad to get

out and support Thomas Read at the primary . He is running for lieu- tenant - governor . - See who's at Quail's ! M. A. Raber has been coming up here since 1929. He's an insurance adjuster . Sometimes he tightens it up like a belt and sometimes he lets it out a notch . Carl Nelson from the Automotive Parts discovered literature in the pages of The Mears Newz and went about reading aloud to the guests on Quail's Trail , such as Mrs. M. C. Young and her young daughter , Miss Helen Young.- Hanson - Osborn at Hart have a 40 with new 1½ story modern house , garage and barn , flowing well , stream and wooded portion , fenced , on a main highway . Schoolhouse across road ; two miles to small town , all for $ 1800 . A $ 350 down payment gets it . - Mrs . Irving Carlson and Mrs. Arthur Buchholz couldn't wait until they got back to Elmhurst , Ill . , to empty the sand out of their shoes . They emptied them at the foot of the dunes . - Janet Rypstra , beautiful nurse , took Lorne L. Clemes for better or for worse . Janet showed him Silver Lake and they ate honey- moon meals at the family cottage . Then they go to Adrian where he works on the Telegram for Stuart Perry . - Beatrice Kerr , formerly a missionary to the Philippines , is with her parents on Shogren street . In Muskegon her father is a house carpenter for the Occidental and fixes the screens if the mesh blows out . - The Yankes are from Hammond . He's a blacksmith for an oil company and maybe he can catch a black airing bass on a bent horse shoe nail . Angela Karos was out for an with Mrs. Herman Kuhne at Silver pond . Minnie Van Dyke sets out corn flake bowls for little Shirley and Ruth and Douglas and the breeze on Shogren street cools the flakes . - C . V. King is returning to General Motors in Detroit with a breeze - washed soul . - Ralph TenBrink buys the Pedersen dairy and will distribute milk to the Shelby door steps.- The 71st Oceana county fair is ready for Sept. 10 , 11 , 12. Thursday is Whitehall - Montague day . At 9 they judge the stock and all exhibits : at 1½ the high school bands of Montague and Whitehall play ; at 2:00 comes the 2:20 trot , purse $ 250 ; then the free acts : at 4½ Shelby and Hart play baseball and the 2:25 pace holds up $ 250 ; at 7½ p . m . come music , free acts and then the boxing . Friday dawns . It's Oceana county children's day . At 9 the light - weight horse pulling contest , 3000 pounds and under ; at 1 the Shelby band plays ; at 1½ the stock parade . Pre- sentation of male calf , given by Silver Hills Farm , Mears , for 4 - II . dairy club essay contest . At 2 the 2:14 trot with $ 250 purse ; free acts : free - for - all trot or pace with purse of $ 250 ; at 4 % baseball . Shelby vs. Hart : 7½ , music , free acts , boxing . Saturday breaks away with heavy horses pulling at 9 ; the Hart band at 1 ; At 1½ the 2:18 trot with $ 250 purse : free acts : at 4 % the baseball finals and 2:18 pace with $ 250 up : at 7½ . music , free acts and the boxing finals . And after that the stars- We have a full line of school supplies ; note book fillers , note books with rings , paper eyelet reinforcements , several sizes of spiral note books at 5e ; rulers , scissors , crayolas , ink , paste ; pen and pencil sets for 50c . Silver Hills Farm won a goodly number of ribbons at the Ludington fair . Considerable interest will center on the calf which Paul Wiener has contributed to be given away at the Hart fair on Friday afternoon in the 4 - H dairy club essay contest . - We are very glad to see our old friend Herman Schuhknecht , the produce buyer , back in Mears buying fruit and pickles at the Jonassen warehouse . Herman is a tall , hand- some guy about six feet tall in his stocks in feet , or is it six foot four and he drinks a lot of coffee at 9 a . m . when he starts on his second round of work . - George W. English in Pentwater bargained with Mrs. Sands for some lots in Pentwater but while the papers were coming back from the Rapids she said he could go ahead and use them anyway , which he did , and his boy sold many juicy angleworms for fish bait . So when Clyde Coon came back from picking fruit a spell and saw the prosperity of the English angleworm business , he also came down to dig and was informed that the angleworm rights were not his . Whereupon he went to Hart to look things up but he found the angleworm beds were not for him . - Gerald Ensing has caught his 39th black bass at Sil- ver Lake this season . - Now , more than ever before , we need a capable and forceful representative in the state legislature .
