We notice by the printed minutes of the supervisors proceedings that the board of supervisors ordered the scune dooter bridge removed by . May 1. Rubbish and junk dumped in the creek may be partially . the cause of holding up the water in Silver Lake . The Silver Lake Better- , ment Club were asking for the removal of the channel obstructions last fall . This week the lake ate across the roadway on the north side of . Silver Lake in two places . A load of stone or broken bricks might buttress the road so it could be repaired . Lake Michigan seems to ber going down but Silver Lake is very high and the channel obstructions at the bridge should be removed . - There often is a tendency in shops for the employees to drat the employer and say : " Darn him , anyway , he ought to give us more money ! " When they meet among themselves . they curse the employer and forget the fact that he is their friend and is doing them a favor to give them employment . These employers by : grace , grit and gumption , by business shrewdness and sagacity have been able to organize and found a business like a canning factory or a foundry . They are benefactors to the community yesterday , today and tomorrow . If they pay a reasonable wage and afford proper working nhours and conditions , why should the employees figure he should use . organized and concerted efforts through the union to make life hard for the employer , the employee's friend ? And yet in almost every city you will find labor when it has no reason to complain always shaking its fist at capital and forgetting the tune of the old song : " Don't bite , the hand that's feeding you . " I will concede the right of employees to . form an association for bargaining but I maintain we should have open shops and no employee should be coerced into joining the union . And , sit - down strikers who strike and sit down in the plant to prevent oth- ers from taking their places should be washed out of the plant with a strong stream from the fire hose . Today when soldiers are getting $ 51 or so a month some industrial employees who are making $ 10 a day will go on strikes and hold up vital production . These men should be instantly drafted for front - line duty in the army at $ 51 a month.- Miss Mabel Gifford , daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gifford , mar ried Harold Johnson , son of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Johnson , at 2:00 o'clock

It is a real joy to find a couple of Mears young folks like Bill and Coralie who marry and settle down among us and buy a little home and fix it up . Young folks like that try to live among us and should be encouraged by all means . We wish we had more young folks like Bill and Coralie who kept their faith in the old home town . The

Now the reason why Westing & Swanson painted their chain of ware- houses black instead of white was so the locomotive smoke wouldn't blacken the white paint that wasn't there when the train stopped at the New Era depot . But when the army boys come back from Australia bringing chunks of white coal maybe they will have to paint the build- ing white so the white coal smoke won't whiten the black paint . - Mary Jane Fuller had a birthday party Monday afternoon celebrating about her sixth birthday .
