The

Surely you ought to be there at the great ox roast in Pentwater on Thursday , August 15. Such a home - coming day it will be . The hand- bills say the ox will be roasted whole , insuring cleanliness and unsur- passed flavor and will be served by the ladies of the community . firemen will have a water fight and then there will be races , games , and contests for the children . A soft - ball game , an airplane with a parachute drop , water sports and pink lemonade . Oh , yes , and some boat races too . And then in the evening there will be free moving pic- tures of wild life put on by the Conservation Department right out- doors down in the Pentwater state park . The Pentwater Yacht Club will put on a big dance in the evening . Taken all in all it looks like Pentwater was planning for some excitement next Thursday so you had better mark that date with a red circle on your weather chart or else your calendar and plan to be there with bells around your neck . Mr. and Mrs. George Clouse will sell roast pork sandwiches in their tavern on that day - Grandmas Ganger and Sehlbach of Chicago spent two weeks at Linger Longer Lodge at Juniper Beach . Although both

are over 75 ( ? ) years of age they never missed their daily plunge in their backless bathing suits . Although Mrs. Gauger left Linger Longer Lodge several weeks ago , she is still reminiscing her visits with the postmaster . Now that all the mice have been caught Mrs. A. E. Schl- bach returns to Chicago after a month's hunt for wild game.-Dr. Mal- colm Brooks , who spent the week - end at Juniper Beach , while roving the beach heard the cry for help from a fair beauty in the water , her- oically shed his pants in a life - saving effort only to have a dog beat his time . The fat lady in the yellow bathing suit has been greatly missed by all along the shore . - The Kuhnes at Crystal Lake have been driving a new Ford - vee - ate which they bought last week or the week before , along with some monkey wrenches and attachments for increasing or decreasing the speed , illumination , comfort and velocity - Valeta Rider was chosen cherry queen at the cherry festival that was held at Catalpa Camp August 1 - Freddy and Audrey Bohland have a real racket . They sit in the car out of the hot sun while the cherry pickers are laboring away . When the pickers bring in the boxes of cherries Audrey tells them just where to place them . Julia and Irene Gnatek are visiting their consin , Frances Gnatek and using a fly - swatter to swat the gnats . Wilbur Wygant returned from the CCC camp about a week- ago and is very interested in one of the charming young ladies that are camping at Seymour Rider's . The favorite song at the Catalpa Camp is " Looking For a Girl " and it pleases Louis Rider , Wilbur Wy- gant and Andy the most . It was about breakfast time when Billo Lathers , aged 7. saw the sample distributor throwing Post Toasties in at the doors of the houses in Mears . Thelma was quick and grabbed up the sample and Billo not to be outdone scooted like a whitehead up to the old honse and grabbed the sample off the porch just as the dis- tributor came out of the next yard and yelled , " Hey , there ! " - Say , I forgot to tell you they are going to have a canoe tipping contest at the Pentwater ox roast next Thursday -- From Jacksonville , Illinois , came Mis . Arnold and her daughter , Dixie , to the Nickerson Inn on a hill in Pentwater , Dixie having a sty and a dog named Pepper . No , she didn't get peper in her eye but why doesn't she rub her sty with a gold ring ? -Edward Wray is there with his Pekinese dog , ten years old and with a regulated diet , never permitted to chase a cat up an alley or up a free or eat a soup bone behind the woodshed . Mr. and Mrs. Herman Halperin like to play bridge , maybe London Briige . And up there at the Nickerson Inn , Bill Hurley , aged 14 , likes to tease his big sister , Marie , who is 19. like the kids in the comic strip in the paper . Do you suppose he hides under the sofa in the parlor when sis is entertaining her bashful beau or under the settee on the piazza ? Piazza , that's an old fashioned word . I just dug it up the other day in the garret and I have been wild to use it . Thanks , Marie , for coming to Pentwater and sitting on the piazza . And give Bill a biff on the ears if he grabs

the gold tinseled bon bon out of the box with the ribbon on it - The sympathy of the village and the countryside goes out this week to Carl Carlson and his family in the loss of Carl , Jr. , who passed away early Tuesday morning from injuries received in the automobile crash the night of July 27 on the Clande Till corner . Carl was only 22 and should have lived a long long time . Wilbur , re- ceived it once upon a time before . Evelyn can keep it on the top of her piano for one year and then it goes to someone else . But today it is hers and she can slap it with a lead pencil , drink coca cola out of it or fill it with candy kisses so Eleanor cannot find them . - Miss Goldie Spore dexterously dishes sodas in Jerry Congdon's and puts the right number of bubbles in them . Some people think the mume Goldie does not fit her but the startling suddenness of her eyes and the sparkle of her alert mentality are like a golden flash . Some belittling person came in and called her Sparrow , telling her she was slim like a sparrew and about as worthless . But we will pass over chillblainel comments with amused indulgence and place them on the chifonier with the amiable amendment that always and always the spirit of Goldie Spore has wings like a bird .
