Carrie Read says , " Don't wear good silk stockings in a mosquito patch for when you scratch a bite you rip your sox . " - The Sunday school picnic is at Silver Lake this Friday at the park . Mr. and Mrs. Frank Merchon of Ludington have moved into the house on the Frank Sloan farm . He is the Watkins man . We realize that while Miss Marguerite Christian will be missed in Mears while she is away on her visit , she will be Missed in Detroit - One day last week the Carlsons of Maple Avenue in Mears had a large house party and Lorraine and Lillian Duester and Bob and Nancy Williams led the other young people down town to buy popcorn at Tiffany's faster than Mrs. Johnson could pop it . Mr. Tiffany has dug his old hand organ out of the garret

or wherever it was he kept it and it is no trouble at all to find small boys who are anxious to crank the tunes out of it in consideration of all the popcorn they want to eat while they are grinding it . In this way they flavor the peace and quiet of Mears with the quaint perfume of the tunes of 1897. - Forest Glen Lathers , three and one - half years old , says , " Daddy , know what I am going to do when I get big like you ? Well , I am going to work at Frank Downing's . Wouldn't it be fun to have all those boards and nails and hammers to play with for hours and hours and hours ? " - Carma Read and Marie Paulson missed Eddie Johnson very much when he was down in Muskegon for a visit . Miss Frances McDonald briskly dries the dishes at the Commercial Hotel in Pentwater and sets the glasses of water around the little square tables in the dining room and she has an attractive slimness that would make her look pictureful in a middy blouse on a yacht with a blue tie flying in the wind . Near the south end of the main drag in Pentwater is the new Conoco gas station of Chan Sayers , built on a Spanish order of architecture . - Mrs . George Leslie lost a fish once or twice on a cord line so her friends advised her to use a wire line when she went out last Sunday - Henry Harding raises some sweet corn so he will have an excuse to go to Hart three days a week , to Pentwater four times a week and to Ludington twice . Henry is like a sailor , he has a woman in every port . - Albert Wigton , realizing he has sort of lost out with Mrs. Fuller , is now turning his attentions to the cook at the Stevens Hotel . Albert's new motto is : " The way to my heart is through my stomach . " - Miss Joyce Crowner observed her birthday the other day not with a hilarious festival but her friends gave her a lot of presents " to make her beautiful " . " You mean , " I corrected , " to ac- centuate your beauty . " - The bunch at the Pentwater state park played a game of soft ball with Pentwater up at the ball grounds and Pent- water received a score of 12 so you can guess what the park bunch must have gotten . - Prof . Donat Kazarinoff , mathematics professor from the University at Ann Arbor made a circle of the oval at the park Tuesday

evening studying the sines and cosines of the times , observing how the moon - gazing cars were parked at a tangent , wondering if everything was exactly on the square or whether a few triangles were represented and it is quite possible he heard a few elliptical noises ( lip - tickle noises ) . Sometimes in the darkness he wonders who x and y are as he ponders over the human equations . Prof. Kazarinoff always takes his mathe- matical mind with him . - The 48th annual meeting of the Oceana Coun- ty Pioneer & Historical Society will be held at John Gurney Park at Hart on Friday , August 23 , 1935. The officers in charge are J. M. Ten- nant , president ; Irving Dayharsh , vice president ; Louis Platt , treas- urer ; Carrie E. Mears , secretary . It is their wish to make this an outstanding meeting and to greet not only all the present members but many new ones as well . Anyone who has lived in the county for 25 years is eligible . There will be the usual picnic dinner at noon for which the society will furnish the coffee and ice cream . At 1:30 the president will call the meeting to order . A worthwhile program of music and speeches is being prepared to deal especially with the early history of Hart and of Elbridge township . The latter having been in- cluded in the Indian reservation should afford much interesting history . -The Espeys and Nelsons are " parkin " at Silver Lake - Some of the girls told me Stuart Wickham should feed his slot machines Ex - lax to make them more active . - Bill Carlson's dog and Babe Richmond's dog had a fight in the middle of the dog race at the ox roast . So neither one brought home the bacon . - Bill Carlson did the rat swim so well at the ox roast that his family should begin to lock up the cheese . - Mod- jeska Fuller pulled herself a glass of water with bubbles in it at Jerry Congdon's fountain while she talked confidentially and chatfully with Jerry , leaning gracefully over the marble fountain from the cus- tomer's area . Wilbur Castle put moth balls in Goldle Spore's shoes and she put some in his hat . - Richard Rockwell rocks well in Oak Park

and he rocks better in Pentwater - Mrs . Mayhew rooting for the ex- temporaneous Pentwater Park ball team , organized a dishpan band with a flag on the summit of a fish pole - Bob Beard and four other boys took a trip to the Soo , and around the bay on the Canadian side and back down the border . - Miss Aina Johnson , the graduate account- ant , is spending a week in Mears . - Jeanne Genung is getting more stature and elegance every day . She has a very graceful sister . - Sidney B. Fuller , son of Ben Fuller , hitch - hiked from Lansing to San Antonio , Texas in three glorious , adventurous days .

In Chicago he sticks to glue and gelatin but here he crosswords at the cross roads and does not get cross about it.-
